Wells, Maine

Wells is a family oriented resort town on Maine’s southern coast. Located between Kennebunkport and Ogunquit and offering a variety of long sandy beaches, great seafood restaurants, antique shops. Near Kittery outlets and a short drive to LL Bean.

Places to Stay

Here are my recommendations…

  • Mike’s Clam Shack (646-5999) on Route 1. Take out or Dine in.
  • La Stalla Pizza (646-1718) on Route 1/route 109. Some unusual special recipe pizzas.
  • Lord’s Steakhouse (646-4200) on Route 1
  • The Grey Gull (646-7501) on Webhannet Drive is the best romantic spot with ocean views of Fisherman’s Cove. Gourmet food.
  • Big Daddy’s (route 1) has the best ice cream! Don’t miss their brownie sundae.
  • The Maine Diner on Route 1 is fast, cheap and a good family diner.
  • Congdon’s on Route 1 definitely has the best donuts. Full breakfast and lunch menus including lobster pancakes!

  • Wonder Mountain Family Fun Center on Rt. 1 (646-9655) has 2 18-hole minigolf courses, waterfalls, and an arcade.
  • Maplewood Farm Golf Driving Range (641-8393) on Laudholm Farm Rd.
  • Tee Shots Golf Range (646-2727) on Rt. 9
  • Wells Recreation Area (Rt. 9A) is a 70 acre parcel which has 4 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, a baseball diamond, horseshoe playing area, picnic tables and a two mile physical fitness course.
  • Wells Auto Museum (Rt.1) has over 80 antique cars on exhibit.
  • Wells Plaza Theater (646-0500) with 5 new indoor movie theaters.
  • Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport (15 minutes North) has antique trolleys and trolley rides (seasonal).
  • Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm (646-1555) Offers day and evening nature programs.
  • World Within Sea Kayaking (646-0455)
  • Captain Satch & Sons – Wells Harbor Town Dock. Fishing and scenic trips.
  • Finestkind Scenic Cruises (646-5227) in Ogunquit – Perkins Cove. Nubble Lighthouse, lobstering, and sailing trips.

Getting Around

I-95 runs along Maine’s coastline. US Route 1 runs parallel to I-95 and passes through many coastal towns including Wells. Wells has a trolley that runs every 15 minutes during the summer and takes you around town and to the beaches.
